CCRP Honours Centenarian Samuel Green

Verla Seymour of the Caring Committee of the Caribbean Community of Retired Persons (CCRP) presents a gift basket to 103 year old Samuel Green. The presentation took place at Mr. Green’s home on Tuesday May 22, when the CCRP joined with the National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC) to honour him for Jamaica’s National Centenarian’s Day, which fell on the Sunday of that week. The gift basket was donated by National Baking Company. The Founder of the Duhaney Park Citizens’ Association, Mr. Green is a much loved leader in that community, where he has lived for the past 57 years. He is happily married to Thyce Green, his wife of 58 years, with whom he now lives. They have two adult children, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Samuel Green was born on Christmas Day 1908 in Paynes Town, New Market, St. Elizabeth, and attended Carmel Elementary School. A former machine operator, he retired in 1973. Mr. Green’s positive approach to life as a senior is a wonderful example of the CCRP motto, ‘Life to the Fullest.’ He continues to be active in his community, enjoys gardening, playing dominoes, home improvement and horse racing. He is also deeply interested in trade unionism, and loves sharing his stories.
