Diamonds in Jamaica Gold

Kingston, Jamaica, May 25, 2012: The Caribbean Community of Retired Persons (CCRP) will be honouring five veteran Jamaican Olympians, as a special feature of its June 16 Expo. The event marks the CCRP’s second anniversary and features the theme
Diamonds in Jamaica Gold”, referring to the contributions of Jamaica’s senior citizens during the country’s first 50 years of Independence.

The senior Olympians being honoured by the organization are Dr. Cynthia Thompson, Vilma Charlton, Grace Jackson-Small, Donald Quarrie, and Bertland Cameron.

“As we celebrate our younger sporting heroes and heroines, we must never forget the groundbreaking achievements of our earlier Olympic legends,” notes CCRP Chair Dr. Denise Eldemire Shearer, “The CCRP wants to pay a special tribute to some of those who helped to put Jamaica on the map, during eras when the whole network of support was less cutting edge, and when many of today’s amenities were not even dreamed of.”

The CCRP Expo will be held on Saturday 16 June at 10.00 a.m., in the ballroom of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. It will focus on investment and wellness, and feature a range of exhibits, both products and services, of special interest to seniors.

The Caribbean Community of Retired Persons was launched in April 2010, with the mission of “working to ensure that the vast talent, experience and wisdom of our seniors will be respected, and that they enjoy the quality of life which they so richly deserve.”
